Luke Letlow, a congressman-elect from Louisiana, died Tuesday after contracting COVID-19 earlier this month. Letlow, age 41, announced on December 18 that he tested positive for the virus and that he would follow all CDC guidelines, quarantine protocols, and the recommendations of his doctors. On December 22, he was admitted to intensive care for treatment.
Letlow won a runoff election to represent Louisiana’s Fifth Congressional District and would have been sworn in next week.
He is survived by his wife, Julia, and two children.
Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards said, “It is with heavy hearts that First Lady of Louisiana and I offer our condolences to Congressman-elect Luke Letlow’s family on his passing after a battle with COVID-19.”
